Prepare yourself in case of a car accident

DO'S

Check your surroundings and stay safe.
Stay inside your car and call 9-1-1 for medical help when you're on a highway or busy road. If it's drivable, drive your car to the side of the road.

Capture key accident information.
and If safe to do so, take photos/videos of the damage to the car and road conditions.

What else do I capture?

Get a police report.
Ask police at the scene for the police report number. If the police are not at the scene, call your local police station to report the accident as soon as possible. Report a hit and run to the police right away.

Don't tow your car to an untrustworthy auto shop.
Make sure you tow your vehicle to an auto shop you trust. We can always help you find a reliable auto shop. Remember to take your belongings and vehicle ownership info from the car.

Check your rights before getting towed

Don't sign a blank invoice.
You may be pressured to sign a blank invoice. Always include your chosen destination on the invoice before signing. We can help you find a TDI preferred auto shop.

Don't negotiate with the other driver.
Don't negotiate payments or take responsibility because this can put you at risk when filing a claim. Let your TD Insurance Claims Advisor guide you accordingly. We're here for you when it matters most.
